Rui Ramos holds a degree in History from the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and a doctorate in Politics from the University of Oxford. Currently, he is Senior Fellow Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences, the Universidade de Lisboa, a Guest Professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and member of the Board of the online Newspaper Observador. He was Vice-Director. As a historian, he specializes in the history of Portugal in the 19th and 20th centuries, concentrating on political and cultural subjects. He is the author of dozens of articles published in Portuguese and foreign academic journals, and of several books, including História de Portugal (in collaboration with Nuno Monteiro and Bernardo de Vasconcelos), which is currently in its eigth printing and was awarded the prestigious Dom Dinis Prize 2009. He was also the author of the 12 episode television series “O Portugal de...”, shown at prime time on RTP1, the Portuguese public broadcast corporation. Apart from his university and historical research activities, he wrote a weekly column in Expresso.
