On the afternoon of September 4, a volunteer action organised by the Institute of Political Studies (IEP), in partnership with Cáritas Diocesana de Lisboa and with the collaboration of the Parish Centre of Bairro do Zambujal, brought significant improvements to the living conditions at Casa de São Francisco de Assis (formerly Casa do Gaiato de Lisboa) and Bairro do Zambujal, in Santo António do Tojal, Loures.
This initiative involved 56 IEP students, who dedicated themselves to various tasks such as painting walls, cleaning streets and preparing the ground for planting a community garden. The event was a unique opportunity to put the principles of Political Science and International Relations into practice, making a positive impact on the local community.
The spirit of solidarity and social commitment shown by the volunteers was fundamental to the success of the action, reinforcing the importance of community involvement and civic responsibility. The project stands out as an inspiring example of how collaboration between academic institutions, charitable organisations and the community can result in tangible improvements in the daily lives of many people.
