Carlos Marques de Almeida holds a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from the Institute for Political Studies at the Catholic University of Portugal and is currently a Visiting Professor in the same Institute, attached to the Contemporary Political Theory Group. During his PhD he was, firstly, Visiting Research Student at St. Antony's College, Oxford, being thereafter elected as a Senior Associate Member at the same College. Member of the Michael Oakeshott Association he is also a Group Officer at the Oxford Society (Portugal).

In addition to the academic activity, he was for many years a regular columnist at several national newspapers and magazines and a political commentator at a television program on news and current affairs.
