Generic Bio

Raquel Duque holds a Ph.D. in Political Science (grade: summa cum laude, 2016) from the Institute for Political Studies of the Catholic University of Portugal. She was a visiting graduate student at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford (2014) and was a recipient of scholarships from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology and ANA-Airports of Portugal. She has an M.A. in International Security and Terrorism from the University of Nottingham (2009) and a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from NOVA University of Lisbon (2005), the last year of which was completed in the Institut d’Etudes Politiques – Sciences Po Paris as Erasmus student. She has also a specialization course in Cooperation for Development from the Institute for National Administration (2008). She is an Auditor in National Defence (2013) and an Auditor for Civilian Crisis Management (2011) by the Institute of National Defence. Since 2019 she is an adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Her teaching experience includes the different subjects such as ‘International Institutions and Organizations’; ‘Political Science’; and ‘Research Methods’; as well as specific modules in postgraduate and advanced studies in security studies and terrorism. 

She has published several articles in academic journals, book chapters, and has also co-edited some books of which Segurança Contemporânea is a good example [Contemporary Security, 2016, with Diogo Noivo and Teresa Almeida e Silva]. She has participated in numerous conferences in Portugal and abroad. Her main areas of interest are security studies, terrorism, defence studies, regional and international organizations, public policy, among others. 

Her professional background includes experiences in the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations, the Foreign Policy Directorate-General of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Centre of European Information Jacques Delors.
