Nuno Sampaio is Assistant Professor, Integrated Researcher, Head of International Programs and Vice-president of the Strategic Council at the Institute for Political Studies of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Lisbon. His PhD thesis is about democracy and legitimacy in the European Union.
Currently, he is Political Advisor to the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and was Advisor for Parliamentary Affairs to the former President, Anibal Cavaco Silva. He often writes op-ed articles in the Portuguese media and he is the author of books about the European elections and the Portuguese electoral system.
