Contact with companies and institutions or organisations is a priority for the Institute for Political Studies, and it is planned to set up protocols with various organisations.

How to apply for an internship through the IEP?

  • Read the IEP Internship Regulation;

  • Contact the IEP Internship Coordinator or send an e-mail to the IEP Executive Internship Coordinator (catia.silva@ucp.pt). At the first meeting, a host organisation for the internship may already be chosen and an application drawn up;

  • Fill in the Internship Pre-Application Form and hand it in to the IEP;

  • Depending on the institution/company where you want to work for, the Internship Coordinator or contact the person responsible for internships at that organisation to inform them of the possibility of taking on interns;

  • Once you have received a positive response from the organisation where you want to do your internship (regarding their willingness to analyse your application), you write a Letter of Motivation addressed to that institution / company and start the formal application process.

  • Write your Curriculum Vitae;

These documents (the CV and the Letter of Motivation) will be analysed at a meeting with the Internship Coordinator and, after any changes, handed in (on paper) and sent by e-mail to the IEP.

The Traineeships Coordinator draws up a model collaboration protocol between the IEP and the chosen institution/company.

The student's official application is formalised by sending a Letter of Application from the IEP, accompanied by all the necessary documentation.

Erasmus+ Internship

IEP students can apply for an Erasmus internship grant under the Erasmus+ programme.

Those interested can submit their applications until the end of May, to do an internship in the following academic year.

According to the programme's rules, students can carry out internships until the academic year following the end of their course, but they must apply and have their application accepted while they are still enrolled: in other words, students who finish their course in July must apply by May of that year, and students who finish their course in February must apply by May of the previous year.

Student applications are made directly to the IEP, which must also prepare the Learning Agreement and liaise with the Host Institution once it has been proposed by the student.

The awarding of scholarships depends on the funding available to the UCP, so mobilities for which there is no funding may be accepted (mobilities with Erasmus status but zero scholarship).

Scholarships are also awarded on the basis of the type of internship, with priority given to curricular internships (which does not apply to the IEP, as the internship is not compulsory), then to extracurricular internships and finally to recent graduates.
