The Institute of Political Studies (IEP) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is organising the 1st edition of the IEP Security Summit, which will take place on 6 December 2024. With the aim of debating and simulating responses to emerging global threats, applications to take part in the event are open until 6 November 2024.
Global security is today one of the fundamental pillars of international stability and cooperation between nations. In the current scenario of growing geopolitical complexity and multifaceted challenges, the Security Summit has emerged as an essential platform for analysing and debating critical issues affecting peace and security in the world.

The year 2024 presents new challenges in the field of security, with changed geopolitical dynamics and emerging threats, ranging from the proliferation of advanced technologies to growing tensions in strategic areas such as the North Atlantic. How to participate in the ‘IEP Security Summit’?
The event is a unique opportunity for 11th and 12th grade students to get involved in crucial global security issues, simulating the workings of NATO's North Atlantic Council.
Steps for Participation:
- Team formation: Each school must form a team made up of up to 4 students (from Year 12 or 11) and 1 teacher in charge.
- Registration: Teams must register by 6 November 2024. The registration form allows you to select the country the team wishes to represent as a ‘Delegation’ from a list provided.
This initiative offers an excellent opportunity for students to develop debating, critical analysis and problem-solving skills in an environment that simulates high-level global security decisions.
