Dissidents, Dictators, and the Defence of Democracy
On November 21 and 22, the Institute of Political Studies will welcome Professor Brandon Silver for an Open Class and a series of Seminars dedicated to the theme “Dissidents, Dictators, and the Defence of Democracy.”
This Open Class will explore how modern authoritarian regimes seek to consolidate power through new forms of political repression and social control, and how dissidents — activists, journalists, and citizens — play a crucial role in defending freedom and democratic order.
The session will examine contemporary cases of institutional erosion, personality cults, and the instrumentalization of law, as well as strategies of democratic resistance at both the national and international levels.
