The Institute for Political Studies (IEP) will host, from June 20 to June 28, the IEP–Georgetown Summer School. This initiative takes place on the Lisbon campus and results from a strategic partnership with the prestigious Georgetown University, based in Washington, D.C.
The program was specifically designed for students of the MA in Democracy and Governance at the American university.
Over the course of one week, participants will have a unique opportunity to reflect and debate, in a multicultural and academically rich environment, the contemporary challenges of liberal democracy, sovereignty, and transatlantic cooperation.
The program includes lectures, debates, institutional visits, and cultural activities, with a central focus on studying the Portuguese experience of democratic transition and consolidation after April 25, 1974, placing it within a broader European and transatlantic context.
Throughout the week, participants will explore topics such as:
- Political parties and parliamentary dynamics
- Democracy
- European integration
- Security and foreign policy

By organizing another summer school in partnership with Georgetown University, IEP reaffirms its role as an active player in the global academic debate and in the training of future decision-makers and specialists in political science and international relations.
