The Institute for Political Studies (IEP) offers students at Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral levels the opportunity to undertake internships during their academic pathway.

Application Process:

Students are expected to follow the steps below:

  • Individual reflection on career objectives, identification of areas of interest and available time periods, and preparation of a curriculum vitae in accordance with best practices (see CV Checklist);
  • Research into priority fields and institutions, using documentary resources, online sources, or through networking with professionals and/or alumni;

Submission of applications:

  • Direct application to institutions that publicly advertise internship opportunities and define their own selection procedures (e.g. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), in accordance with the institution’s requirements. Students should subsequently contact the IEP if the formalisation of an internship agreement is required;

  • Completion of the Expression of Interest form, followed by contact from the Programme Coordination, which will provide support by sharing the student’s profile with institutions willing to host IEP interns.

Erasmus+ Internship

IEP students can apply for an Erasmus+ grant to undertake a traineeship abroad under the Erasmus+ Programme.

Once an eligible host institution has been identified and has agreed to host the traineeship, students should contact the IEP as early as possible to initiate the Erasmus+ mobility application process. In accordance with the procedures currently in place at UCP, the application must be duly completed and formalised no later than 15 days before the scheduled start date of the traineeship.

In the case of traineeships undertaken after graduation, the application must be submitted before completion of the study cycle, and the traineeship must take place within the 12 months immediately following graduation.

Applications are submitted through the IEP, which also coordinates the preparation of the Learning Agreement and liaises with the host institution.

The awarding of Erasmus+ grants depends on the funding available to UCP. Mobilities for which no funding is available may therefore still be accepted, with participants retaining Erasmus+ status as zero-grant mobilities.
